I charge by the page.

What's a page?

A standard manuscript page is 250 words (for poetry, about 20 lines). This is left over from the days of typewriters. A typed page, in 12-point type with one-inch margins, the lines double-spaced, has about 250 words. It's convenient to have some standard, and that's as good as any.

This standard manuscript page has exactly nothing to do with a printed page in a book, or a page of your manuscript. It's just a useful fiction.

So, here are my rates:

  • $5.00 per page, up to 20 pages (5,000 words).
  • $3.00 per page, if what you send me is over 20 pages, but under 100 pages (over 5,000 words, but less than 25,000).
  • $2.50 per page (one cent per word, rounded off to the page) for manuscripts of 100 pages (25,000 words) and over.

That gives you a pretty close figure. I'll tell you the exact amount after I get your manuscript.

You can pay by check; I'll send you the address. Or you can pay by PayPal. Most people pay half up front and half afterward.

But first, do NOT forget the
